THANKS FOR VISITING KINSHIP CARDS

The seed was planted for Kinship Cards years ago when I was a little girl visiting my grandparent’s home. My grandmother had thousands of pictures tucked away in old photo albums in their bedroom. I would spend hours flipping thru each one as I sat by their fireplace. I would always ask as many questions as I could about each person or place I saw on the pages. I never tired of looking at those photographs and after a while the people, some of who were long gone by the time I was born, started to feel like my friends.

When my grandparents moved to a nursing home, my mom, aunts and I filled box after box with those pictures. As they made their way from my grandparent’s old farmhouse to my little one bedroom apartment a hundred miles away, it never crossed my mind that I didn’t really have room for them. These pictures were my history, my family and my friends. They needed a good home, and they would live with me.

Fast forwarding a couple of years: I was working in radio at the time as an Atlanta reporter and a close friend during a party asked me what I would really like to be doing.

My dream of designing greeting cards with old family photographs flashed thru my mind, and Kinship Cards was born.

My mom, Brenda Helton, is co-owner in the wholesale business as well as my voice of reason and a constant encourager.

Thanks to everyone in my family who happily agreed to let me use their smiling faces on my greeting cards. But, a special thank you to my grandmother, Inez Walker Bartlett, for taking so many pictures over the years. She is the reason I am now able to pursue my dream.
